High John The Conqueror

John the Conqueror was said to be an African prince that was sold into slavery in the Americas. Despite his enslavement, his spirit was never broken and he survived in folklore as a sort of a hero like figure, evading his masters. High John Root is one of the most powerful and widely used roots in Southern Conjure of New Orleans Hoodoo and Witchcraft! Carried by both men and women although it is said to be a "man's" root as it is often associated with male virility and power.
